Short Story
"Here."
Alex blinked and took what was offered to her. It appeared to be a perfectly standard smartphone....with a big ruby of some kind embedded in the back of it.
"Um." Alex raised a hand and pointed at the gem. "....this is gonna make it hard to fit in my pocket..."
"It's to boost the signal," Susan said wryly. "And that's as small as I could get it. You're lucky you don't have to walk around with one of those giant purse things they had in the 80s." She held up one of her own, but the gem inside hers was blue, rather than red. "It can communicate with Endymion. Just like this one can communicate with Earth."
"Sooooo." A smile came to Alex's face. "We can talk even if I'm here and you're there."
"Mmmhm," Susan said, smiling as well now. Alex didn't wait much longer than that to step forward and wrap her arms around Susan's back.
"So this must've been really tough, huh?"
"Well, you know, for some lesser witch it might've been difficult," Susan said airily, waving a hand dismissively. "But it didn't take much for me."
"Iiiiii see!" Alex said. "Well, lucky for me, I happen to be girlfriends with the greeeeatest witch in history!" She said, a little exaggerated, but still mostly genuine. She then leaned in and planted a kiss on her lips. Her ego properly sated by Alex's adulation, Susan reciprocated happily.

"Nothing?"
"....nothing."
Alexandra stared at the phone. She'd locked it up somewhere when she'd started training so she wouldn't be tempted to use it. Now she'd dug it up and was trying to use it to call Susan. Since she hadn't been anywhere in the city that Alex could find and her parents in America said she wasn't there that they knew of, the only place left Alex could think of was to call her in Endymion. But she wasn't getting any answer. She'd been trying for the last two days since the Wonder Quartet had ended and now she was getting worried.
"It's possible she misplaced her phone," Galaxy-Eyes suggested.
"Not really. Susan doesn't misplace anything she can't find again when she needs to," Alexandra said. She looked down. "...I left without saying anything to her. It's been a year since she's heard from me. She's either ignoring the call because she's pissed at me..."
"Or..."
"...or she can't answer it because she's in trouble," Alexandra muttered. She thought about it and she came up with a question -- did they really have any reason to believe Academia wouldn't attack places out in the 12 Dimensions as well?
"...crap." She ran a hand through her hair.
