Short story

"Adjust point F45, G43 and Z62 to these specifications."

Claws scratched across a screen. Points on a line moved.

"Yes, Master Prime. Adjusting frequency. Harmonizing. Sequencing complete. Shall I play it?"

"Yes."

A song began resonating through the Armory, the heavy vocals bouncing off of the walls. For several long moments, the notes were clear and crisp, but they began to degenerate, eventually completely disintegrating into crackling noise and static. One of her clawed hands made a fist and slammed into the console before her, denting it.

"Stop."

Her head turned.

"Did the statue resonate at all."

"A reaction was tracked, but it immediately stopped once the Gospel broke down, Master Prime."

Her eyes hung on the statue, briefly. It was a cracked, grey statue of a dragon. A great, divine dragon, almost as large as the photon dragon staring at it. It had been an immensely powerful dragon. It and its followers had mastered a Gospel of Revival, that, if sung correctly...was told to have the power to reverse death.

But that Gospel had been lost long ago. And now Galaxy-Eyes was just here, tepidly standing in front of a computer, desperately trying to reverse what had been set in stone many lifetimes ago.

Her eyes started to drift shut. She had been working nonstop since she'd arrived in this place. It was catching up with her. The light coming from her chest dimmed and before she knew it, she was asleep.

---

"Why...?"

Prime was almost in tears. She could barely see straight from the mixture of grief and rage. In her hands were crests. Red crests. That she had carved out with her own hands. The crests of her Cloudragons, her children.

"WHY, GALAXY QUEEN!?"

The one in front of her, the one responsible for this, her best friend, stared at Prime as she dropped to her knees.

"I freed them," she said airily, the smile on her face growing wider. From all of this...from the Numbers. From the Astrals and the Barians. All of the children...I set them free from the pain and suffering of these dimensions and the Warp..." Her elegant smile became a wide, unhinged grin.

"I freed them...just like that Number freed Star Robin from me." She tittered. "You should thank me, Prime."

Prime's hands made fists. She didn't even realized she had crushed the crests in her hands.

She launched off of the ground. The distance between them closed instantly, her hand grabbing Galaxy Queen by the neck. They both flew through the wall behind her. Her other hand drew back and repeatedly punched Galaxy Queen as they flew through the air. The fight was over before it had started but, Prime didn't stop, striking her former ally, throwing her through one building, chasing after her only to grab her, pummel her and throw her again.

Eventually, she was pulled off of Galaxy Queen and Galaxy Queen was taken away, under arrest. They attempted to detain Prime as well, but she knocked them all away and took off. She had nothing, now. Her most trusted ally had betrayed her. Her allies were dead. Her Cloudragons were gone.

All she had was revenge. And she'd take it on every last Number until there were none left.

---

"NNNGAAAH."

She flexed her hand and swung it instinctively. It left a deep gash in the floor in front of her, the sound of claws on metal and her roar echoing throughout the Armory. She let out a grunt. She had curled up on the floor and fell asleep.

"Are you alright, Master Prime?"

...she raised her hands up and ran them over her face.

"Yes. I'm fine," she grumbled. "Just...a bad dream." She massaged her face a bit. "The memories are coming back more clearly now..." She sighed. "I'm starting to remember."

She'd been sniffing that incense for weeks now. It had to start working eventually, she supposed. She looked at the console.

"Shall we try adjusting the Gospel again, Master Prime?"

"..."

She sighed.

"Search all records and recordings. Keywords, 'Different Dimension Esper Star Robin'."

"Searching. Records located. D.D. Esper Star Robin, LIGHT/Warrior, Level 11, 3000 ATK, 1500 DEF. Defensive specialist. Son of Number 83: Galaxy Queen. Deceased."

"..."

"Master Pri-"

"Delete all of the Gospel of Revival files."

"Master Prime?"

"Just. Delete them. Before I change my mind," she repeated, more hoarsely. "...I can't go back anymore," she grunted. "I can't keep living in the past...all I can do..." She breathed out through her nose. She shook her head. "Just delete them."

"Yes, Master Prime." A brief pause. "All of the Gospel files are deleted."

"Redirect what energy we have into Rank-Up-Magic synthesis and the new Galaxy Matter Engine. Take what remaining files we have on the Felgrand clan and synthesize them into cards. I'll supply the paramaters. When the CPU is ready, download all files on Star Robin into the new engine."

"Yes, Master Prime."

Galaxy-Eyes' claws began scratching across the screen again, with renewed purpose. She'd wasted a lot of time on that Gospel, in the vain hope it could reverse everything that happened to her. But that was just a fantasy. There were only two things she could do now...

Hold on to what she had in front of her. And get justice for those that had fallen.

Alex was in bed, one arm behind her head, the other scrolling through her phone. Eventually, she stopped finding stuff to distract her and just flipped the phone out of her hand. It landed on the bed, near her feet. She laid back, glaring up at the ceiling like it had insulted her for a few minutes.

"..." She let out a low sigh and flipped on to her side. She pulled the covers up over her head and grumbled to herself. The problem with technically being on the run from Stupid Fucking SpecInv's Stupid Fucking Robots was that she had to keep moving a lot, which meant she couldn't stay with Susan and Icarus as much as she wanted to. Galaxy-Eyes had been at the Armory for like two weeks now, they hadn't gone hunting for any Legendary Numbers, so she was just...busy doin' nothin' but hanging out with her own thoughts.

...

Suddenly, the covers were pulled up off of her. Her eyes widened. She immediately assumed the worst, that she'd been tracked to her current hiding place. She started to raise her hands.

"..."

Only for a big smile to come to her face and for her to make a big, undignified sniffle.

"What the heck took you so long?!"

"Sorry. I lost track of time. And when I found it again, getting back was...its own challenge."

Galaxy-Eyes plopped down on the bed next to her. She held her hand out. A deck of cards was in it.

"Maybe this will smooth things over." Alex stared at the cards, confused, for a second. She took them and started flipping through them. After a few seconds, her eyes widened.

"... ...I forgive you, instantly and completely." She said and threw her arrms around Galaxy-Eyes' waist. Galaxy-Eyes responded by putting her arm behind the girl's head and pulling it close. She placed her head against Alex's forehead.

"I made you a new Galaxy Matter Engine as well. It's safer."

"Okay," Alex said and sniffed again. "That stupid hunter kept makin' fun of mine."

The two stayed like that for a while. After two weeks of separation, it did a small world of good for both of them. For Galaxy-Eyes, it affirmed something to her.

Her past was gone. But she would hold on to what she had in front of her for as long as she could.
